Science is not a distant and cold knowledge, it is a way of life and a kind of literacy. Only through the improvement of national scientific literacy and support for basic scientific research can humanity have the possibility of facing challenges and moving towards a sustainable society. The \Taiwan celebrates the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development\ aims to move towards this goal, and to showcase Taiwan's outstanding achievements and efforts in basic science, science communication, and sustainable development to the world.

On April 12, Professor Qiu Meihong of the Institute of Science Education of National Taiwan Normal University promoted a lecture on the theme of "rooting science and sustainable Taiwan" in Lanyu High School.nIn the lecture, Professor Qiu Meihong emphasized that the promotion of scientific education is crucial to realizing Taiwan's sustainable development. She shared the overall plan of IYBSSD@Taiwan to respond to the activities of the United Nations promoting basic science and promoting sustainable development of the international year, and encouraged students to cultivate their enthusiasm for science and use science to create positive impacts for society. It also discussed the challenges faced by Taiwan in the field of science and education. She encouraged students to have the ability to have creative and resource integration in scientific education and actively seek opportunities for learning and contributions.nIn general, Professor Qiu Meihong's lecture provides valuable insights on scientific education and sustainable development, stimulating students' interest in science, and encouraging them to start from themselves from themselves.
