『Webinar Series on Global Sustainability ★ Digital Age』Campus Sustainability Actions as a Living Laboratory

Specialization
Event Date | 2023/04/11 Address | Cisco Webex

Sustainability isn’t just happening “out there;” it’s a consideration every day right here on our campus. By using the facilities and community as a miniature model of the world at large, we can learn things that will make the campus — and the world — better.

The \Campus as a Living Lab\ program from Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment (iSEE) at UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS URBANA-CHAMPAIGN is designed to #link campus sustainability targets to national and global sustainability, energy, and environment challenges. Each year, iSEE calls for proposals to provide quick seed money for promising faculty-led teams that will engage with interdisciplinary sustainability issues on campus or in neighborhood communities in their proposal development.

Welcome to join our discussion and exchange online on time!

From the "Global sustainability network seminar series", we learned about some successful cases and innovation methods on campus sustainability practice.

Participants shared the methods of how to use the campus as a laboratory, using groundwater and geothermal resources for energy conservation and emission reduction, realizing the targets of net zero growth, and the practice of building standards, energy contracts, solar power generation and biomass boilers. At the same time, they also introduced how to achieve climate leadership commitments through organizational groups, green funds and student sustainable committees.

In addition, the participants also shared some examples, such as Red Oak Rain Garden, using computer vision technology for garbage classification, etc. to prove the results of the sustainable practice of campus.

This online seminar provided us with many valuable experiences and inspirations, allowing us to understand the importance and feasibility of campus sustainability practice more deeply, and also encouraged us to actively participate in it, to achieve the goal of global sustainable development goals Make contribution.
