Three-Minute Talk For Science English Short Speech Training Workshop for Teachers
Language communication is fundamental to global sustainability initiatives. In order to help teachers understand the current international sustainable innovation and science communication policies, as well as development trends, and to incorporate them into the school's English speech courses, we are organizing an English Short Speech Instructor Training Workshop in alignment with the IYBSSD@TAIWAN response plan. Through exploratory and practical workshops, we will introduce practical guidance on English short speeches, enriching science education and humanities literacy. This aims to cultivate students' foundational innovative and extended thinking for future sustainability, and to promote teachers' guidance in enhancing students' investigative and practical skills, while fostering confidence, innovation, and communication abilities, thus moving towards international sustainable development in the future.【Key Techniques for Rapid Mastery】Presentation skills, summarization skills, communication skills, promotion skills, and critical thinking skills—all five skills combined to turn your precious time into effective power. We welcome you to join us in inspiring sustainability power together.Target Audience: In-service natural science teachers from senior high schools and junior high schools, as well as university educators with a background in science and engineering, are all welcome to participate.Workshop Sessions: One session each in the northern, central, and southern regions, totaling three sessions. Each session accommodates 50 participants (no additional sessions will be added once full; if fewer than 10 participants are registered by the deadline, the organizer reserves the right to cancel the session). The "Three-Minute Scientific Innovation English Short Talk Training Workshop for Teachers" was successfully held from September 16 to October 21, 2023, in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, with a total of 80 participants. The workshop aimed to enhance teachers' abilities in promoting international sustainable scientific innovation and integrating these skills into their English speech courses. Through inquiry and practical exercises, the workshop covered five core competencies: presentation, summarization, communication, promotion, and critical thinking, enriching scientific education and humanistic literacy. Participating teachers reported that the workshop improved their skills in English short talks and professional knowledge in scientific education, while also broadening their international perspectives. The success of the workshop enabled teachers to confidently guide students, enhancing their inquiry and practical skills and fostering innovative thinking. Future efforts will continue to promote similar training, incorporating more international resources to advance the internationalization and sustainable development of Taiwan's education. We extend our gratitude to the National Science and Technology Council for their guidance, and to the National Taiwan Normal University Science Education Research Institute, the regional high school inquiry and practical curriculum promotion centers, National Zhushan Senior High School, and the National Library of Public Information for their strong support. We look forward to more teachers participating in the future, jointly enhancing the level of scientific education and advancing towards international sustainable development.
