In order to declare Taiwan's support for the international community to promote basic science and move towards the goal of sustainable development, the National Science and Technology Commission responded to IYBSSD and launched the "International Year of Basic Science for Sustainable Development IYBSSD-Taiwan Series Promotion Activities", hoping to "root science To promote the spirit of Taiwan's sustainable development, raise the public's awareness of basic science, and at the same time demonstrate Taiwan's rich energy in basic science to the world.

 Combining industry-government-academia-research circles with non-governmental and international cooperation, through a variety of activities throughout Taiwan, The content of the event promotes four core themes: equal rights in science, enlightenment in science, participation of all people, and international connection, starting from Taiwan and creating a sustainable future with the international community. 

The launching ceremony of the "International Year of Basic Science for Sustainable Development IYBSSD-Taiwan Series Promotion Activities" was specially selected to be held on Taiwan's largest scientific research ship "Li Jin". The third harbor in the east of Hong Kong, led by President Tsai Ing-wen and the National Science and Technology Committee, announced the departure. Taiwan's scientific community set off from Taiwan and sailed to the world, demonstrating the energy of "rooted science" and the determination to "sustain Taiwan"! .
